USPS ranked best in the world

Financial troubles and lobbying for reform on Capitol Hill have apparently not gotten in the way of USPS continuing to deliver the mail and ensure high-quality service. Oxford Strategic Consulting recently reviewed mailing service providers in the 20 largest economies in the world, and found that USPS continued to outrank other countries in public trust and operating efficiency.

The top five postal services were USPS, Japan Post, Australia Post, Korea Post and Deutsche Post, respectively. Oxford conducted the review by assessing how many citizens each postal system served, reliability and trust, and volume of letters and parcels delivered per employee. USPS delivered almost twice the number of letters per employee than the second-place competitor, and more than five times the number of letters delivered per Deutsche Post carrier.

Postmaster General and CEO Patrick Donahoe said he was proud of the ranking and vowed that USPS would maintain that level of service for years to come.

"Our best days are ahead of us," Donahoe added. "I have no doubt the Postal Service will overcome its current financial challenges and endure as the world’s leading postal service."

From a business angle, USPS also continues to dominate. In the 2011 Fortune 500 listing of the world's biggest corporations, the organization took 109th place.
