Description: This tech note shows you how to generate a proper Intelligent Mail barcode that you can use on your Business Reply Mail pieces.
To get better rates on Business Reply Mail, you can make the pieces you send to your customer automation-compatible. While you can still use the POSTNET barcode, you will soon have to use Intelligent Mail barcodes to qualify for automation rates. Bulk Mailer cannot generate an Intelligent Mail barcode for these pieces, as you need to set the barcode ID to 00, you can create these barcodes using the workaround shown below.
To Generate an Intelligent Mail Barcode for a Business Reply Mail Piece
- In your Bulk Mailer mailing, open any Detail View.
- Click the Correct the selected address
button.
- Navigate your web browser to https://ribbs.usps.gov/onecodesolution/download.cfm. Download and run the encoder program for your operating system.
- In the BarcodeID field, enter “00”.
- In the ServiceID field, enter the appropriate service code as listed here: http://ribbs.usps.gov/intelligentmail_mailpieces/documents/tech_guides/stid.pdf.
- In the MailerID field, enter your six-digit or nine-digit Mailer ID.
- Select the 9-digits check box if you have a nine-digit Mailer ID.
- In the SerialNo field, enter a unique sequence number or other identifier for this mail piece. If you do not want to include sequence numbers in your barcode, enter a string of zeroes; nine zeroes if you have a six-digit Mailer ID, six zeroes if you have a nine-digit one.
- In the ZipCode field, enter the nine-digit ZIP + 4 Code from Bulk Mailer without the dash.
- Click the Encode button.
- In the Encoded bar-code string section, press Ctrl + C to copy the Encoded string that the program produces and paste it in your mail piece design software. You can copy it to the IM Barcode field in your mailing if you want, but any future mail sorts will overwrite it.
